Skill Education for Blue collared workers

Skill training should be specific & focused on a particular competency.

Today the industry is lamenting about the fact that there are workers available but they are not skilled, especially the blue-collar workers.

If they collaborate with good Educational institutes & prepare courses with specific content needed for the job they can get trained employees who can be productive from day one. While some companies are doing it, a joint approach by the peers in the industry could help. It could further help unemployed people who are unskilled while also helping employees who are on the job.

The course could be of few days, months or years. Government can support by giving it approval/ certification through appropriate agency.

Thus we can have Certificate or Diploma courses in Retail Sales, Front Office staff/ Receptionist, Soft skills for Drivers, Security guards, Liftman, Delivery boy, Mason etc.
eg. Automotive companies along with Service providers like Ola, Uber etc can create standard guidelines for Drivers Soft skills course. This course should be certified by an appropriate Government or private agency.
Thus, the industry gets a skilled worker & while recruiting it acts as an advantageous qualification for the candidate. This course can also be extended to even the roadside mechanics as part of CSR so that the automotive customers benefit at large.
Similarly, other industries which recruit blue collar workers in large numbers can collaborate to build a Skilled man power base which can lead to efficiency & effectiveness on the work front.
eg. A smiling front office staff / waiter can ensure repeat customers, a courteous Security guard / Liftman can make sure that the Facility Management Company’s contract is renewed at a premium, a helpful Driver can enable brand enhancement, an alert & attentive Delivery boy can give valuable insights to the company about the customers, an efficient mechanic can reduce the time of car repair, so on & so forth.

In a nutshell, collaboration of all the stakeholders – Industry, Educational Institutes, Government & NGO’s can aid in enhancement of skills of Indian work force & also assist in creating new employment.
